New bus station built in Komló

2024. 02. 15.

A brand new complex serves passengers at the bus station in Komló, a town in Baranya county, which serves local and intercity bus services. The investment has not only brought the station up to European standards, but also renewed passenger areas and increased green space, providing 21st century conditions for Komló passengers.

The project “Improvement of the transport infrastructure of the Komló bus station and its surroundings” was fully funded by the European Union under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme. The old station was built in the 1960s and has not been significantly altered since then. The needs of local transport have changed significantly and a completely obsolete complex has been the central public transport hub for Komló and the surrounding municipalities.

As a result of the project, the old waiting room was replaced by a completely new, two-storey, 350 m2 modern building with up-to-date passenger information system. The ground floor of the new station building houses a waiting room, traffic service, ticket office, public toilets, storage and other facilities, while the upper floor is used as a traffic office for Volánbus. A roof has been built over the platforms to improve the quality of the station’s services for passengers.

Not only has the station building been improved, but the surrounding as well such as pavements, pedestrian crossings and the green spaces. In total, nine departing and three arriving carriages serve the station’s passenger traffic. Thanks to the redesign and the redeveloped environment, the crossing of bus, pedestrian and cyclist routes has been reduced, which will improve traffic safety.

The development was implemented from EU funding in the project TOP-3.1.1-16-BA1-2017-00011 under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme.
