Hundreds of thousands of children in need received regular help

2024. 07. 08.

With the support of the Operational Program for the Support of the Most Deprived People, the project of the Directorate-General for Social Affairs and Child Protection was implemented. Within the framework of it consumer durable goods were delivered once a year to families in need, in which a young child aged 0-3 is raised or where the mother is pregnant.  Moreover school and education kit is also provided for 1-8 years entitled to a regular child protection discount.

The project’s goal was to offer basic consumer goods to poor families with children, which led to the distribution of more than 115,000 baby packs to families in need between January 2018 and December 2022. The baby package included products such as a baby shower gel, shampoo, textile diaper, skill development game, detergent that contributed to the development and hygiene needs of young children. A total of more than 115,000 baby packs provided significant help to 20-25,000 families in need each year.

Before the start of the school year, packages were given out that were tailored to the needs of the children in each grade and this took a lot of financial burden off the parents’ shoulder.

Packages containing, among other things, a booklet, pencil, pen, drawing sheet, protractor, counting disc and hygiene kit also helped to create equal opportunities within the school walls and reduce early school leaving. Approximately 31,000 students benefited from the first school package distribution, and the project supported the education of an average of 100,000 children per year for another four years. The number of school packages distributed is approximately 440 thousand.

The program was implemented with European Union funding under the RSZTOP-2.1.1-16-2017-00001 project.
